• We have had the honor of designing and developing parks funded by the State of California’s Park Development and Community Revitalization Program. We have worked alongside Desert Recreation District, County of Riverside, and City of Indio on the development of projects that were awarded the Proposition 68 Grant funding.

We recognize the value in collaborating directly with community members over the course of the design process, especially in critically underserved communities. Doing so has given us the opportunity to develop projects that best serve the community’s needs and provide them with a space where families and friends can enjoy one another’s company in a welcoming outdoor setting.

INDIO SPORTS PARK — PHASE ONE MASTER PLAN

Indio, CA

In 2021, Hermann Design Group had the privilege of working with the City of Indio on the development of the master plan for Phase I of the Indio Sports Park. The project was awarded $8.5 million in grant funding from the State of California to fulfill the initiative of creating recreation opportunities that would best benefit critically underserved communities. To ensure the City of Indio’s eligibility for the grant, we worked in union with the City to facilitate community-based planning to satisfy the community engagement criterion. Written surveys were used to initiate the process and determine the community’s needs.

On-site and virtual workshop meetings were held to provide Indio residents with the opportunity to give feedback on the design process and to encourage feedback on desired park features and amenities. By fostering an environment in which community members could freely share their opinions on proposed park features in addition to sharing ideas of their own, we received invaluable input that inspired the planning and design for the Indio Sports Park.
