Sustainability

While California is no stranger to prolonged droughts, it is more important than ever to be mindful about our water usage. At Hermann Design Group, we are committed to wisely omitting water, also known as the “WOW®” factor, with the goal of creating a positive impact on the environment from start to finish. We create eco-conscious atmospheres by strategically incorporating native and drought-tolerant horticulture, in addition to hardscape elements like pathways, fire features, and outdoor sculptures.

In consideration of widespread water shortages, local water agencies incentivize community members to conserve water through various rebate programs. By working closely with water agencies and staying up to date on sustainable technology, we utilize additional techniques such as turf reduction/conversion and “smart” irrigation to ensure that our clients are eligible to receive the benefits of these rebate programs. These methods can be applied to custom residential homes, master-planned residential communities, commercial landscaping, and parks and recreation facilities, benefitting our clients by preventing water district penalties and translating into significant financial savings.

STRATEGIC IRRIGATION

Using native plant species and creative irrigation systems, we pride ourselves on drought-tolerant landscaping solutions that save water and money, while still providing unique and inviting outdoor environments.

Financial Incentives

There are a variety of local government incentives to reduce or convert your turf and transform your outdoor living space to drought-tolerant landscaping. At HDG, we work closely with you to facilitate and manage the benefits of these incentives. To ensure your eligibility for these programs, we will develop the appropriate designs for pre-approval.

RENOVATION

Starting from a bare, open lot to renovation and rehabilitation of existing landscape elements, our designs go beyond just turf removal or reduction. We consider your space carefully to strategically incorporate hardscapes such as patios, pathways, decorative retaining walls, and other features that will retain style and beauty, while also reducing overall water consumption. We incorporate unique focal points such as decorative boulders, colored stone beds, fire features, and outdoor sculptures to add visual interest and contrast.
